2010 Dogswalk Against Cancer

The 2010 Dogswalk Against Cancer was the biggest and best yet! On Saturday, April 3rd, hundreds of dogs and their people ascended on uptown Charlotte for a 1.1 mile walk to raise money for the American Cancer Society. Almost 1000 people registered and over $59,000 was raised to fight both human and animal cancers! Yay! This event was truly special to me as I have never seen SO many dogs and their owners unite for one cause. Every doggy was amazing and its truly touching to see how a common interest in animals can unite and create an instant bond between complete strangers. A million thanks to the awesome people, sponsors, and beloved dogs that came out to support this event.

Who can resist a face like this?

These guys cracked me up! I think they were hitting the margaritas!

This little guy was ready to go again!

This sweet guy (available at the Great Dane Rescue) made it the whole way...he just had to stop and rest a couple times.

Being cute is tough work!

A few doggies had the red carpet treatment and got chauffeured down the street!

I fell in LOVE with this Bulldog! His name is Bacon (how awesome!) and he has the coolest tongue. The poor guy was soooo exhausted!!!

Some more furry cuteness...

These next few pups are available for adoption at the Great Dane Rescue of the Carolinas...

Congaree National Park

Those of you that know me well probably already know that I am in love with the National Parks in this country. They are the most gorgeous and pristine places with a uniqueness all of their own. My goal is to eventually visit every single one - all 58! Β Well, yesterday I got to cross another name off of the to-visit list...Congaree! Congaree National Park just recently became an official National Park and I was thrilled to discover that fact upon moving back to the east coast. Located just outside of Columbia, Congaree is just a 2 hour drive from north Charlotte. The fam and I got to spend the afternoon walking the elevated boardwalk that hovers above the Congaree River floodplan. Next time I go, I'm going to explore Cedar Creek on the canoe trail - the perfect way to see some of the more isolated areas! Definitely check this place out!

Here are a couple pics from the visit to my 26th National Park...

This place reminds me of the backdrops you see in drawings of dinosaurs...

And of course some black-and-whites. The first one is so delicate...

Sneak Peak - Lake Wylie House

Today ended up being a gorgeous day with the prettiest sky I have seen in a long time! Fortunately, I was previewing a house that I am photographing on Friday when the sun decided to peak through. I decided to sneak a couple early shots and got lucky with the bluest sky...a great compliment to this beautiful home. Can't wait to photograph the rest of this house - the craftsmanship is absolutely stunning...

Great Dane Rescue

Yesterday I had the honor of spending some time at the Great Dane Rescue of the Carolinas. If you judge by the name, you would think they only rescue Great Danes. However, they had every breed and mix under the sun...all very sweet and happy to spend some time with new friends! Many of the dogs have been abused and/or abandoned but you would never know based on their sweet dispositions (as you can see in the pics, they are all smiles!). Every dog I had the pleasure to interact with only wanted two things...love and a forever home. If you are looking for a new pet, please keep this rescue in mind. They run a no-kill facility and survive only with donations and volunteers. I have decided to volunteer my time and services to this group in hopes of getting the word out there and possibly increasing the chances that one of these deserving doggies find their forever home! Please check this blog and my Facebook page frequently for photos of new, available pets. Rain kinda put a damper on the shoot yesterday and cut it short but I will get tons more pics soon!

If you see a dog featured here that you are interested in, please contact me or the Great Dane Rescue. Also, thanks to my husband Brian for helping me out at the rescue on his birthday! The doggies love you forever for it and they give you tons of slobbery kisses!

iPhone Photo - Different Pet

Last year I had the joy of watching a family of birds nest in one of the hanging plants on my front porch. It was a family of House Finches and they welcomed 5 little baby birds. I'm happy to announce that they are back and are nesting again! So...I know...they aren't your typical pet, but I sure do enjoy watching them in action. Here is what I discovered today...

Looks like one is on the way! I hope to have more by the end of the week!

Welcome to my blog!

I'm absolutely thrilled to have a blog!!! I've been wanting this from day one and can't express how happy I am to finally have it going! If you want to keep up, I'll be posting sneak peaks and some of my favorite pics from my future photo shoots, as well as iPhone photos and personal stuff. Feel free to leave comments on anything you see here and if you are interested in booking a session, just give me ring or drop me a line!

And what's a blog post without pictures?!? I should introduce you to my clan because I'm sure you will see a lot of them on here!

So Eva will start the show... She is my inspiration, my little lady love, and my stinky dog. I love her very much and I feel it is very much returned. She has quickly become my studio assistant yet she will be the first one to kick me off the computer (she has learned to throw my arm off the mouse with her nose). Here is Eva... Eva

Tucked into her favorite spot in the sun...

This is Teton...a very big and very happy cat. He has been with me for 9 years...longer than most things that I own. He has been with me through some really rough times and some of the best times. He is very near and dear to my heart.

And last but not least...Little Kitty! Little Kitty is the softest thing I have ever touched...and I have to touch her often. She seriously is obsessed with me and is constantly either sitting on me, laying on me, or sitting between me and my computer screen. I don't mind because I know it makes her happy!
