Stop and Smell the Flowers

Yeah, I know. This isn't my normal post on architecture or pet portraits...or even the occasional person or iPhone photo. This is completely different and a little outside of the box when it comes to what I photograph. However, I couldn't resist! These gorgeous blooms appeared for the first time this year in my backyard (thanks to a transplant from my sister's house in South Carolina) and I just wanted to stop for a moment and smell the flowers...

iPhone photos - trip to Maine

The last three days I have been in Maine for a family function. I took this opportunity to take a short break from taking pictures with my "real" camera and avoid adding on to the long list of post-processing I have to do. Of course, that didn't mean no picture taking at all! My iPhone is always right there with me and it doesn't require long hours of editing! Aaaahhhhhh...so easy...most of these were taken out the car (or plane) window!

Baby Evan is here!

A few days ago I had the unique opportunity to photograph a newborn baby. Unique in that I have never attempted such a feat; newborn as in he was a brand new 1 1/2 week old. Needless to say, I learned a lot! I learned about motherhood, diaper changing, warning signs an accident is in the making, oh, and how to photograph a totally new type of subject. I had a blast! So here is Evan Dennis! Born on April 6th, this big boy weighed in at 10 pounds, 8 ounces and was 22 inches long. I've been eager to edit these images and I stayed up extra late (er...early...its 4:26am) just to work through some of my favorites. Please help me in welcoming baby Evan to the world!

Evan's big sis, Molly...

This one is called "Evan Dancing"...

Sorry. I couldn't resist...

The birds are all grown up

If you have been on this blog lately, you will know that I've had the pleasure of watching 5 House Finches grow up! I have to check their status every now and then just so I can water my plant but I always have 3 unhappy parents squawking at me. BTW...is it weird that there are 2 males and 1 female keeping watch over the nest? I really don't know! Anyway, as of yesterday, this is how big they have gotten. The poor guys barely fit in the nest! They all have cute little feathers and will probably be leaving the nest in the next day or two. :( Β When I took pics this time, they weren't so sure about me. They definitely weren't begging for food from the big, black lens hovering over them.

You can find the original post here. The chicks' final pet portraits...

iPhone Photo- Rainy Sunset

We literally left dinner and it was POURING rain out. As we were driving home, the rain stopped and the clouds parted just long enough to catch a glimpse of the setting sun. We quickly turned into a parking lot that leads up to the lake and I managed to capture the last seconds of the sun saying goodnight. I wish I had my good camera for this but in the words of the talented Chase Jarvis, the best camera is the one you have with you.

Congaree National Park

Those of you that know me well probably already know that I am in love with the National Parks in this country. They are the most gorgeous and pristine places with a uniqueness all of their own. My goal is to eventually visit every single one - all 58! Β Well, yesterday I got to cross another name off of the to-visit list...Congaree! Congaree National Park just recently became an official National Park and I was thrilled to discover that fact upon moving back to the east coast. Located just outside of Columbia, Congaree is just a 2 hour drive from north Charlotte. The fam and I got to spend the afternoon walking the elevated boardwalk that hovers above the Congaree River floodplan. Next time I go, I'm going to explore Cedar Creek on the canoe trail - the perfect way to see some of the more isolated areas! Definitely check this place out!

Here are a couple pics from the visit to my 26th National Park...

This place reminds me of the backdrops you see in drawings of dinosaurs...

And of course some black-and-whites. The first one is so delicate...
